Short answer: TARGA is a company with three arms. Targa Watches is a Danish fashion-watch brand, founded in Copenhagen in 2021, with seven collections sold through authorised dealers. TRANSCRIPT.YOU turns speech into accurate, structured text. ASKAI.FREE is a free AI assistant. One standard runs through all three: precision, measured and stated honestly.

What TARGA is

TARGA makes two very different kinds of object. One is a watch: machined, assembled and worn on a wrist for years. The other is software, rewritten every few weeks and used for an hour at a time. People often ask how one company ends up doing both. The answer is that we are not really in two trades. We are in one trade, practised in two materials.

Three products, one measure

Targa Watches is the core of the company and remains its main business. TRANSCRIPT.YOU and ASKAI.FREE are the software arms, and they are newer. What the three share is how they are judged. A watch is measured against legibility and wear. A transcript is measured against the words that were actually spoken. In each case the standard sits outside us, and the product either meets it or does not.

Why a watch brand builds software

Watch design punishes vagueness. A dial that is nearly readable is unreadable in poor light. A case that nearly fits the movement is the wrong case. Working that way teaches a habit: define the standard first, test against it, then say what the test showed. That habit transfers cleanly to accuracy in software, which is why we treat precision as one subject rather than two.

The watch business

Copenhagen, 2021

Targa Watches was founded in Copenhagen in 2021. That makes it young in a trade that likes to count in centuries, and we treat that as an advantage. A heritage house designs against its own back catalogue, and the archive quietly writes the brief. We had no archive. So our questions stay in the present tense: how does this watch look under a shirt cuff, and can the date be read without glasses?

Seven collections

There are seven collections, and each answers a different question. DW1 is the minimalist line and the one most people buy first. DW Chronograph is the DW1 with three extra hands. Fashion runs from subtle to sophisticated. Seal is the naval-diver-inspired automatic in a round case, and Chrono Seal adds dual chronograph registers to that aesthetic. Just Date is a classical watch rebuilt in modern proportions, with a single date window. Gentleman Chronograph is the traditional chronograph, dressed properly.

Each starts from a different question about how a watch is worn, rather than repeating one idea in seven finishes. If you are shortlisting a first serious watch, our guide to choosing one asks the questions we would ask.

The dealer model

Targa is sold through authorised dealers, and the network is deliberately small. In Denmark the dealer is at Bredgade 19 in Copenhagen. In South Korea it is Korea Watch Company Limited in Seoul. Online, MaxUr.dk is the licensed retailer, and the only one.

We would rather be represented well than represented everywhere. A dealer who carries few brands can fit a bracelet properly, and can say honestly when a model is wrong for your wrist. Anything sold outside that chain sits outside it in every sense, provenance and servicing included.

Precision is not a claim you make about a product. It is a standard someone else can hold it against — the same standard whether the thing is a dial or a document.

How the standard moved into software

Moving from watches to software was not a change of direction. It was the same question asked about a different object: what is this measured against, and does it hold?

TRANSCRIPT.YOU

TRANSCRIPT.YOU turns recorded speech into accurate, structured text. A transcript comes back with punctuation, paragraphs, speaker turns and timestamps already in place, so it can be searched, quoted and filed rather than rebuilt by hand. Accuracy is discussed in word error rate, the industry's own measure, and we explain how to read those figures, including ours. Recordings are usually confidential, so your audio and transcripts stay yours; our privacy stance sets that out in full.

ASKAI.FREE

ASKAI.FREE is a free AI assistant for everyday questions, writing and research. It is free because basic assistance should not be a subscription decision. We are equally plain about what it cannot do. Language models sometimes produce fluent statements that are simply wrong, and we explain why that happens instead of pretending otherwise. Use it to draft and explore, then check anything that matters against a primary source.

What we value

Four words do most of the work here. None of them is a slogan; each one decides something specific.

Precision

Work is measured against an outside standard, not an opinion. For a watch that means legibility at arm's length and reliability over years. For software it means errors per thousand words, and whether an answer survives checking.

Transparency

We describe limits as carefully as strengths. That means naming the conditions that hurt transcription accuracy, and saying where an AI assistant should not be trusted. A claim we cannot support is a claim we do not make.

Longevity

A watch should be worn for years and repaired rather than replaced. Software should be maintained as an instrument, not run as an experiment on the people using it. Both choices cost more in the short term, and both are the point.

Service

A product is not finished when it ships. Whether your question concerns a bracelet pin, a difficult audio file or a strange answer from the assistant, someone here will read it and reply. Service is part of what you bought.

How the Journal is written

Written by our own desks

The TARGA Journal is written in-house by the people who work on the products, under desk names rather than invented bylines. It covers horology, transcription, AI assistants and precision itself. It is edited to the same standard as everything else we make: plain language, no hype, and nothing asserted that we cannot stand behind.

Why much of it sells nothing

A large part of the Journal has no commercial purpose at all. A guide to caring for a watch you already own does not sell you a watch. An explanation of how to judge a transcription service may point you to someone else. We publish both anyway, because writing that exists only to move you along is advertising, and readers can tell the difference immediately.

How to reach a person

One message, the right desk

Write to us through the contact page and your message goes to the desk that can actually answer it. Watch servicing, a transcription problem, a question about the assistant, press or partnerships: each has a person attached to it. That person reads what you sent and replies. We would rather take a little longer and answer properly than send you something automatic.

The short version

  • One company, three arms: Targa Watches, TRANSCRIPT.YOU and ASKAI.FREE, run to a single standard.
  • Danish and young: founded in Copenhagen in 2021, designing for how watches are worn now.
  • Seven collections: from the minimalist DW1 to the naval-inspired Seal automatic.
  • A small network: Copenhagen and Seoul in person, MaxUr.dk online, and nowhere else.
  • Written to be useful: the Journal explains its subject, and much of it sells nothing.

About TARGA — frequently asked questions

Who owns TRANSCRIPT.YOU and ASKAI.FREE?
TARGA does. Both are built and run by the same company that makes Targa Watches, and both are held to the standard the watches set. They are separate products with separate uses, and you do not need one to use the other. What they share is how they are measured and how they are explained.
Is TARGA a watch company or a software company?
Both, and the watches came first. Targa Watches was founded in Copenhagen in 2021 and remains the core of the business. The software arms grew out of the same working method rather than a change of plan. We think of it as one trade practised in two materials: define the standard, test against it, then report honestly.
What does precision actually mean at TARGA?
Something you can check. A dial either reads at a glance or it does not. A transcript either matches what was said or it does not. Precision here means naming the standard before the work starts, testing against it afterwards, and describing the result plainly, including the parts that fall short.
Does TARGA sell watches directly?
No. Targa watches are sold through authorised dealers: Bredgade 19 in Copenhagen, and Korea Watch Company Limited in Seoul, with MaxUr.dk as the licensed online retailer. The network is small on purpose, because a dealer who carries few brands can advise properly. If a seller is not on that list, it is not authorised.
Why does TARGA publish so much free writing?
Because understanding a product is part of owning it. The Journal explains how movements work, what accuracy figures actually measure, and where AI assistants go wrong. Much of it will never sell anything, which is the point. Guidance that only ever points at our own products is advertising, and readers spot that straight away.
